Atlantic City once held the distinction of being called the Las Vegas of the East Coast. People all across the East would travel their to enjoy the plush casinos, instead of flying across country. The city is now trying to restore itself as the number one tourist destination in the East. Three new mega casinos resorts will be opening in Atlantic City. There are several hurdles that need to be crossed, however, before they are open for business.
First and foremost, the three casinos will need approximately thousands of workers to fill all of the positions that will be available in the casinos and resorts. This presents a further problem of, not only finding enough people to fill the spots, but also where these people will live.
The second major issue will be the traffic. The roads are not set up to handle the potential influx of people that the new casinos will bring.
The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa has already addressed this potential problem. They will have a daily shuttle bus that will run between Camden and their Atlantic City casino. That has been established by a contract with the South Jersey Transportation Authority.
The job situation will also be a difficult one to solve. people will have to commute upwards of three hours to get to work. That, in part, is because with so many jobs available, it becomes necessary to grab workers from outside of the Atlantic City area.
The city is on its way back to the glory that it once enjoyed, but these hurdles, coupled with some other potential problems, could make for a rocky road back.
